1.The Internet Archive started as a non-profit group– calling themselves the “Internet Library” in 1996 and since then they’ve been helping archiving go digital.
2. The original group was located out of the Presidio of San Francisco (a national park). Today the archive has locations across the United States. You yourself can add your own history and the history of your family to the Internet Archive with help from LivesArchived.
3.The mission’s original goals were to extend preservation of artifacts and documents to the digital world. On their website they site they the founders were inspired by the tragedy of the Library of Alexandria to ensure that history would not be lost again.
