How to add videos

To add a video to an archive, the video must be in a file (digitized) and in the right file format (MP4), and smaller than the maximum size permitted at LivesArchived (5MB currently).    The file is compatible if it’s name ends with .mp4.

Upload to LivesArchive just like any other document or photo by selecting Add Items

Youtube

If you have a video you uploaded to Youtube that you want to archive download from Youtube using these instructions.    Youtube will provide you with a MP4 file.

Personal DVD

Some people have put home movies on DVDs.   Unfortunately, DVDs have a limited lifespan and should be archived on a service like LivesArchived.    A free software package called Handbrake will in one step convert your DVD to an MP4 file to upload to LivesArchived.

VHS video tape or 8mm film

You can use our scanning service or others like ScanCafe.    Most sites on the web that do this will provide you a personal DVD where you will have to use the instructions above.
